"MALAYSIANS BETTER OFF THAN FOUR YEARS AGO", SAYS SECOND FINANCE MINISTER TAN SRI NOR MOHAMED YAKCOP

Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop claims 'Malaysians better off then four years ago'. On what basis he is claiming puzzles most Malaysians.

It is true that the government revenue during the past years from mainly petroleum has arisen, since the current world market has exceeded more than USD100 per barrel. This means the government has more money to use.

But if you were to ask the ordinary rakyat, they all claim that with soaring consumer goods and services prices, they are feeling the pinch. The kampong Malays, Sabahans, Sarawakians, Indians and also Chinese when approached, claim that everything is going up and what they earn is just enough or may have to go without. So how is that, the claim that we are better off than four years ago.

Maybe, the Barisan Nasional politicians who are corrupted and UMNOputras who are frequently given 'hand-outs' to win their support by the government, maybe the basis used by this Second Finace Minister to make, this remark. Then, he should make it at an UMNO gathering and confine his claim to this group of privilege people.

It would be timely for the government to see that the excess income earned be made to subsidize consumer goods and services so that, it will benefit the rakyat on the whole.

Until and unless the rakyat can feel that they are better off, this claim made by Second Finance Minister is just a eye-wash to gain support for the current uncaring, ineffective, inefficient and corrupt Barisan Nasional government and an election gimmick.
