FEDERAL COURT HEARS APPLICATION OF HINDRAF 5 FOR RELEASE FROM ISA

The Federal Court this morning heard the application of release of the HINDRAF 5 against their ISA detention without trial. Their 11 page submission was made by Mr Karpal Singh in front of three-member panel comprising of Justice Arifin Zakaria, Hashim Yusoff and Chief Judge of Malaya Justice Alauddin Mohd Sheriff.

Court proceedings were adjourned at 1pm today while Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail would be making his submissions tomorrow.

On 13 December last year, P Uthayakumar, M Manoharan, V Ganabatirau, R Kengadharan and K Vasanthakumar, well known as the Hindraf 5, were detained under Section 8(1) of the Internal Security Act 1960 for two years for staging an 'illegal' street demonstration of about 30,000 Malaysian Indians who are claiming the government to stop depriving them of equal opportunities and fair treatment in their country of birth.
