BALKIS RM9.9 MILLION FRAUD - WHY NO INVESTIGATIONS AND ARREST

Wives of Selangor Assemblymen and MPs Welfare and Charity Organisation (Balkis) had transfered RM9.9Million effective March 11, 2008, a few days after the Opposition had gain control of the Selangor State government from the Barisan Nasional. It has been revealed by former Selangor Menteri Besar's wife and former Chairwoman of Balkis, Datin Seri Zahrah Kechik that the sum was transfered to another organisation, the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) on March 11 after an emergency meeting chaired by her.

The present government, Pakatan Rakyat have deem this act as criminal breach of trust since these officials have no power or authority to act in this manner since a new government have been elected after the general elections on March 8,2008. Furthermore, the external auditors, Chartered Accountant Yee Choon Kong had informed that they have not received any documents to finalise the the accounts for the year 2007 and despite numerous request been made. Chartered Accountant Yee Choon Kong further informed that since Balkis’s 2007 accounts have not been audited and the organisation have no right whatsoever to transfer its funds without an auditor's approval as stated under its constitution, and he confirms that nothing of this form have been undertaken by him.

Political leaders wives should not be allowed to do things at their own whim and fancy without complying with the laws of this country. These are public funds which were sourced through donations from companies which had dealings with the state government and one must be accountable for every sen that is spent for public interest.

Its been revealed that the wives of the former political leaders in Selangor had used these association’s funds for overseas trips while accompanying their husbands and having a shopping galore. No where in the associations rules or clause allows these wives of state leaders to use public funds for their global trips and to do their personal shopping depriving many who deserve these sums for a proper living.

The Police, Attorney-General’s Chambers and the Registrar of Societies need to look into this matter seriously as public funds are involved and if there is a travesty of justice, the law should take it course no matter how high one’s position is.

Will the justice prevail.
