Malaysia had lost its legal rights over Pulau Batu Puteh to Singapore although it is only 7.7 nautical miles from Johor compared to 25.5 nautical miles from the Singapore Republic due to the negligence and failure of the Malaysian authorities in safeguarding its sovereignty. The decision was made by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on thursday evening on a 12 to 4 decision, in favour of Singapore by the presiding judge Awn Shawkat Al-Khasawneh at the end of his two-hour oral judgment. Pulau Batu Puteh is also referred to as Pedra Branca.
Pulau Batu Puteh was at all material times a part of the Johor Empire, but sometime in 1953, during the British colonial period, a lighthouse was given permission to be constructed and this place was supervised by the Singapore authorities. It was revealed that the then Johor State Secretary had issued a letter giving permission to the Singapore authorities to construct and manage this lighthouse. Since the Johor Sultanate did not bother about this island, which is about half a football field, it was deem that they had lost the legal title to this place which is a very strategic location and a heavily-used Singapore Strait entrance on the South China Sea. This granite island is viewed significant for its strategic position and impact on territorial marine boundaries of Malaysia and its neighbours.
Since Pulau Batu Puteh is so close to Johor, Singapore's ownership will be very detriment to Malaysia since the territorial waters of Singapore once realigned would enhance Singapore's marine supremacy since Singapore has always been noted for their stubborn and uncaring attitude towards its neighbours although it may speak otherwise.
The ICJ had awarded Middle Rock to Malaysia which is totally insignificant although it had always belonged to Malaysia.
The Barisan Nasional government on the other hand is impressed by this judgement after having spent a considerable amount of legal cost by hiring foreign legal experts. Trying to distort the actual facts from the Malaysian rakyat on the 'incompetence' on the part of the Barisan Nasional government to gain control of Pulau Batu Puteh is really 'unbelievable'.
The status of the third crop, South Ledge is still a mystery since the ICJ had viewed that it shall belong to "the state in the territorial waters of which it is located".
Malaysians are once again made 'fools' by this ineffective, inefficient, uncaring and corrupt Barisan Nasional government.

As a Malaysian, only one thing that I am not very happy; The Singapore TPM was there on the ground zero throughout the ICJ hearing - Why not our PM or DPM did the same?
Throughout history Malay leaders lost and won part of their states through sabung ayam, through sewa and jual negeri, rompakan dan penipuan hak orang lain (macam orang lain juga). Hopefully this disease does not stay on in Malaysian leaders today?
What will happen to the lands in our corridors (South, North and east), 100 years from today? Will it end up in the ICJ court also? It could be, because just a simple so called "straight forward perjanjian jual air kat Singapura" pun tidak menguntungkan kita. Duit yang kita dapat daripada jual air, nak beli gula-gula pun tak cukup. Nak ganti tambak Johor sebelah kita pun kita tak sanggup buat.
The government bill of guarantee not to censor internet in order to establish the Multimedia corridor and cyberjaya - had contributed a lot to the loss BN in the GE12!
just invite singapore back
into malaysia and all
problems will be solved,
easy isnt it.....
