The Perak opposition is fuming over the state government's failure to invite their state assemblypersons to the monthly district action committee meeting.
Opposition leader Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin condemned the BN's hypocrisy after Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir's recent call for cooperation.
Following the Federal Court's Feb 9 rejection of Nizar's appeal to be declared the legitimate menteri besar, Zambry had invited Pakatan to cooperate for the well-being of the state.
“Zambry's public announcement asking us to cooperate with BN members is just mere lip-service to fool the public,” Nizar told a press conference at the PAS headquarters in Ipoh yesterday.
The district action committee meetings are attended by district officers, government officials and elected representatives to sort out problems faced by the public.
Nizar said that, over the past year, the public in opposition-held constituencies have been unrepresented at such meetings.
He charged that this was a move to discredit the opposition.
“They did not invite us to any of their district level meetings during their one-year rule of the state - so you cannot expect us to gate-crash our way into such meetings without a proper invitation,” he said.
'BN was invited'
Conversely, said Nizar, BN state assemblypersons had been invited to all district action committee meetings during Pakatan's 10-month rule of the state from March 2008 to February 2009.
“Not only did they fail to attend, they did not even bother to send their representatives,” Nizar said.
Ousted state assembly speaker V Sivakumar (right) then showed records of meetings that BN state assemblypersons had not attended.
Former executive councillor Mohd Zainudin Mohd Yusof questioned the BN's 'confrontational' approach, as it is impeding Pakatan's ability to help the public.
“This is an overdose of politicising by BN to make voters to hate us and it is why is BN afraid to allow us to attend such meetings. They may have something to hide from us,” he alleged.
