SABAH ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT PROBLEM UNRESOLVED

With the recent visit by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi last weekend, Sabahans had expected a favourable solution on the illegal immigrant issue faced by the State. PM Datuk Seri Abdullah had announced a special Cabinet committee to tackle the issue which has arose various criticism from Sabahans and Malaysians alike. The rakyat had expected that the Prime Minister would announce a Royal Commission of Inquiry since various Cabinet committees had been formed previously but the end result was a failure in addressing the issue effectively.

Sabahans fear that these illegals would soon be TUANS in their own State since the Barisan Nasional government were the main caused of creating this problem by granting identity cards (form of citizenship) to these illegals to gain their voting support.

Barisan Nasional Members of Parliament have even contemplated in joining the Opposition party to address this issue and this is when the issue of 'cross-overs' were widely speculated. Barisan Nasional is in total reliance of the counterparts from Sabah and Sarawak to maintain their status quo. Any defection will cause a change of government and will be very detriment to the current ruling Barisan Nasional as is currently been faced with a vote of no confidence by its own members (temporary ex-members).

In the interest of justice, the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi would have to reconsider his decision and announce a Royal Commission of Inquiry to tackle the illegal immigrant issue if he wants to enjoy the confidence of the rakyat despite criticism raised against his administration by certain close quarters.

Will PM Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi do this?

sabah population increased extraodiniarily by 285% between 1979 (636,400) to 2002 (2,730,100). another 12% increased to 3,063,600 in 2007. this phenomenal increases, believe to be done by UMNO through the so called Project IC as part of its gameplan to invade sabah. true enough, they brought UMNO to sabah in 1993 and clinched to power in 1994. although, UMNO lost the election but managed to bought over two state assemblymen to leapfrogged to UMNO, thus enabling UMNO to formed the state government with a simple majority.

Royal Commission of Inquiry on Illegal Immigrants (RCI)- majority sabahans are in favour with the establishment of RCI for its quasi-judicial power. the previous two RCIs was successful in carrying out it tasks. reports and recommendations forwarded to PM.

1st RCI to Enhance the Operation and Management of the Royal Malaysian Police in februari 2004 has completed its tasks in 2005. its 576 pages report with 125 recommendations submitted to PM in 2005 but to date, majority of its recommendation have yet to be carried out.

2nd RCI on Lingam video clip case does not give cause for optimism either. all the RCI seems to have achieved is to break the raging fever that had lead to its creation. the government is left to deal with the aftermath, with no sign of positive out come.

RCI on Illegal Immigrants in sabah, if it is to be establish, won't make any diferent with the out come of the previous two RCIs. If UMNO's involvement in the establishment of the so called Project IC taken into account, of course, one should not expect much from abdullah badawi to revise his decision, for RCI's finding definitely would implicates UMNO and its goons and most probably will implicate badawi too.

in fact, sabah need no RCI of FCCI in handling illegal immigrants issues. as the state chief executive and chairman of the internal security sabah, the chief minister has all the powers required to direct a concerted effort to flush out the illegas, as proven by tan sri chong kah kiat, the previous cheif minister of sabah. RCI may solved the Project IC's mystery with some recommendations but it won't solve the whole issues related to illegal immigrants.
