PM Najib: NEM for all

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak says that whatever approach the government adopts in implementing the New Economic Model (NEM) will have all round support from Bumiputeras, non-Bumiputeras, foreign investors and the global market.
He also said the government would ensure the NEM would attain the objective of transforming the country into a developed high-income economy.

"We realise, whatever we do must be market-friendly and have the support of the people," he told a press conference after chairing a three-hour Umno Supreme Council meeting last night.

Najib said the lengthy discussion on the NEM, which would be unveiled next week, was intended at obtaining the feedback of Umno Supreme Council members, according to Bernama.

Decision on Ku LI state matter

The meeting also discussed current economic developments and steps taken by the government to place the economy back on the recovery path.

On the appointment of Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah by the Kelantan government to represent the state in oil royalty discussions with the Federal government, Najib said "it was a decision made by the Kelantan state government".

He said the compassionate aid from the federal government would be given to the people of Kelantan in accordance with the constitution.
