TURN-OUT OF MALAYSIAN HINDUS AT BATU CAVES WERE DISCOURAGING

The Thaipusam festival was celebrated on Wednesday, 23rd January 2008 all over our country.

But to the surprise, this year's turn-out of devotees and onlookers at Batu Caves had been unexpectedly very poor. It has been learned that SMS and emails requesting Malaysian Hindus from boycotting Batu Caves had been accomplished. Sources quoted that paal kudam (milk pot) takers were given free of charge in order to attract the crowd to take part. Even the number of kavadi takers were reduced temendously this time around.

Surprising that temples all over the country experienced an unexpectedly large crowd.

At most temples, it was reported that banners were placed for the immediate release of the 5 Hindraf ISA detainees who had voiced their concern that Malaysian Indians had been marginalised.
