The new Electricity tariff will take effect from today. Consumers have been adviced to be more prudent in their use of electrity. Under the new tariff, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) decided that domestic users would still be eligible for the existing tariff of 21.8 sen/kWh if their monthly usage did not exceed 200 kilowatt hour (kWh).However, for electricity usage between 201 kWh and 400 kWh, they will have to pay 34.5 sen per kWh unit.The rate will increase on subsequent 100 kWh of usage -- 30 sen for 401-500 kWh, 39 sen (501-600 kWh), 40 sen (601-700 kWh), 41 sen (701-800 kWh) and 43 sen (801-900 kWh).A maximum rate of 46 sen will be charged for each kWh when the usage reaches 901 kWh and above.
It is expected that most households would be affected by the new tariff since consumers use more than 200 kilowatt hours.

Good morning Mr Kamal
I really can't see how a household can live on 200 kilowatt hours of electricity a month unless the person/persons are not home most of the day. I am a retiree and spend a lot of time at home browsing the internet. The weather is so hot I have my aircontioner on late afternoon and thru the night. My electric bill each month is just below RM140. Only 1 fridge, 1 washing machine (used on alternate days) and no cooking. Please advise as to how to jimat? Stop using the puter? Might as well not live!
Pak Lah;
This is the time to clean-up the IPP secret agreements with the government that lead to Petronas to subsidize billion ringgit of gas cost supplied to IPP yearly to produce electricity for TNB (some are not properly used). Petronas, TNB, public have to pay billions for this one-sided agreements.
After-all the IPP agreements and licenses were meant for certain sons of big fellow to make billions (just like the fomema licence) - But the ultimate result of this is, the sons of big fellow made billions all right - but only for one shot. After that other tycoons make multi-billions ringgit yearly.
Agreed with fergie. We have tried very have to safe cost. Living in KL is not that easy. Ubah cara hidup, we might as well change the kerajaan. Don't know whether can survive until Sept. 16. Our only hope, DSAI
