Another 'tree' sitting for Sivakumar and gang?

Perak Pakatan Rakyat Speaker V Sivakumar does not rule out the possibility of another 'under the tree' sitting come March 30.

Although he sent out notices today informing assemblymen of the sitting, he is convinced that it will go unheeded as far as Barisan Nasional representatives are concerned.

“I know that the BN assemblymen won't accept it like how we (Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen) won't accept (Datuk R) Ganesan as speaker either,” he said.

Ganesan, from MIC, was appointed speaker after Sivakumar was literally thrown out of the house after Barisan Nasional seized control of the state last February with the help of defections.

After being denied access to the house, Sivakumar and Pakatan assemblymen held a sitting under a tree on March 3.

“We are not very sure if it will be a repeat of last year (assembly under a tree). We are not sure what is going to happen on March 30,” said the Pakatan speaker.

“Ganesan can say that such an assembly is not legitimate, but he was not elected to be speaker and he circumvented the state constitution,” he said.

Court decision does not apply on legislative branch

Sivakumar explained that he will ask the state assemblymen to submit their verbal and written questions in today's notice.

Their questions will then be handed to the secretary of the assembly and distributed to all the relevant government agencies, which will then be answered at the state assembly sitting.

The current quagmire over the sitting has kept Sivakumar in the dark over what will be discussed as the very idea of assembling as a whole state assembly is still in a limbo.

The March 30 sitting is a continuation of the Perak crisis, despite the Federal Court ruling that BN's Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir is the rightful menteri besar.

“The Federal Court's decision is only for the executive branch. It doesn't apply on the legislative branch and we are not going to give in on the matter,” said Sivakumar.
