High-speed broadband to arrive on March 24

Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is set to launch its next-generation High Speed Broadband (HSBB) retail service on March 24 at the Dataran Merdeka here. A simultaneous launch will also be held at Menara TM in Bangsar, including a live crossover feed to a yet-to-be disclosed location in Sarawak, TM said in a statement today. Prime Minister Najib Razak will be the guest of honour at the main event in Dataran Merdeka, where he is also expected to launch the new National Broadband Initiative (NBI), of which HSBB is the flagship project. TM group chief executive officer, Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, said TM wanted to reassure the early adopters of its HSBB packages that they would be of "premium service, but not premium pricing."

Speed 10 megabit per second

The HSBB retail packages will comprise triple-play services of voice, video (IPTV and Video on Demand), and high speed Internet. HSBB offers bandwidth at network access (port) speeds of 10 megabit per second and to support the delivery of its triple play offering. Signed in September 2008, the RM11.3 billion national HSBB project public-private-partnership agreement between TM and the Malaysian government to develop next generation high speed broadband infrastructure and services for the nation. - Bernama
