Ku Li: I'm in Umno for life

Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah stressed that he would remain in Umno for life, hence dismissing speculation that he would jump to another party.

tengku razaleigh speech 110310 02He refuted claims by certain quarters that he would quit Umno for another party over his explanation on the oil royalty issue on Feb 28 in Kota Bharu which he said had been misconstrued to undermine his position.

He stressed that he would not quit his party division chief post and would remain loyal to the party's struggles although certain quarters hit out at him and questioned his explanation and stand on the oil royalty issue.

"If there are people who want my post, they'll have to wait for me to die," he quipped at a BN leadership function in Bukit Chekati, near Gua Musang, to day.

Hurt by attacks

Razaleigh said he was hurt by the various statements and assumptions made on his position as it was not wrong for him to personally explain the oil royalty issue to the people of Kelantan.

"Furthermore, my explanation was not made on PAS' platform but 52 non-governmental organisations had organised the public talk to enable me to explain the matter and the provisions of the Petroleum Act 1975.

"What have I got to do with the party (PAS), that there were people who even went to the extent of asking me to quit (Umno)? They should consider that I was willing to disband Parti Melayu Semangat 46 which I had helmed to rejoin Umno," he said.

Razaleigh said the matter must be understood clearly because the people became confused following the various allegations made against him.

He said he gave the explanation with good intentions and he wanted to know whether the people of Kelantan supported his stand.

"It was definitely not to go against the Umno leadership," he added.
