Rosmah and son serenade Chinese business do

Prime Minister Najib Razak's son Norashman Razak showed his talent by singing a Mandarin song at the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCIM) Chinese New Year grand dinner last night.

He was later joined by his mother Rosmah Mansor to perform a duet for a similar song. Present at the dinner were Najib and business tycoon as well as top MCA leaders - president Ong Tee Keat, deputy president Dr Chua Soi Lek and vice-president Liow Tiong Lai - as well as former Gerakan president Dr Lim Keng Yaik.

In his speech, Najib has urged a “Chinese-based political party” to solve its internal problems quickly because the Chinese community needs its leadership. Without naming specifically the party concerned, Najib said: "If you have problems, please solve your problems quickly.

"I am not referring to any political party, but get on with it, we don't waste any time, the Chinese community needs your leadership."

Najib said this in his speech at the here, today, and his remarks drew laughter from the floor.

The prime minister also said he hoped that the Year of the Tiger this year could make Malaysia a great nation.

"Let us make Malaysia a great nation starting of this year. Make this Year of Tiger a really prosperous and harmonious year that will benefit all under the 1Malaysia concept" he said.

Chua yet to decide on contest


Speaking to reporters after the event, Chua said Najib had always hinted to MCA to solve its problems. He said holding fresh party polls was the best solution for MCA to recover its conflicts within.

Asked whether he would be defending his post, Chua said he had not thought about it yet.

Liow and MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong, who agreed with Najib's advice, said they were determined to settle the party problems quickly so that MCA would emerge stronger. - Bernama
