'Umno paid his RM1.8 mil debt': Zahrain cries slander

Former PKR MP Zahrain Mohamed Hashim fumed with anger over the allegation by an ex-political comrade that he had turned his back on the opposition party because Umno offered to settle his debt. When approached for comment in Parliament, the visibly vexed Bayan Baru rep dismissed the allegation as a lie.

"That is slander and it is not true. If you are trying to get comments on slander and lies, that
would be hard... it's not the truth!" he said.

Zahrain also challenged PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution, who made the allegation, to take the matter to court.

"If got (evidence), charge me in court-lah! I don't know what you are talking about...I don't comment on rubbish," he said.

RM2 company

In a recent interview with party organ Suara Keadilan, Saifuddin claimed that Zahrain owed RM1.8 million to an unidentified company in Penang.

He alleged that the former Penang PKR leader had wanted Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to give the greenlight for a RM2 company to operate and manage the Bukit Jambul Golf and Country Club, of which Zahrain is a director.

However, Saifuddin said the chief minister disagreed and this is when Umno had allegedly stepped in with the offer to settle the debt, paving the way for Zahrain to quit PKR and declare himself as an independent MP.

Zahrain quit PKR last month, claiming that he had lost confidence in the leadership of Lim Guan Eng and PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim.
