DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng (picture) today slammed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for attacking DAP’s Middle Malaysia concept.
The prime minister had fired the first salvo this morning when he took a dig at the DAP’s Middle Malaysia concept which was introduced during the DAP national conference in Ipoh recently, and said it was a mere rebranding of the party’s old concept of “Malaysian Malaysia.”
“Malaysian Malaysia was a failure. When something fails, what else should be done than to rebrand it,” he had said with a smile.
Later, at a press conference at the Parliament lobby, Lim said Najib had failed to understand the concept.
“The Prime Minister attacks Middle Malaysia as not following the spirit of the Constitution. I think he does not understand at all, and is simply shooting blanks,” said Lim.
Lim, who is also Penang Chief Minister, asserted that the DAP’s Middle Malaysia concept was based on “the reaffirmation and restoration of the Malaysian Constitution... which respects democratic values and basic human rights that gives every Malaysian citizen equal and equitable rights.
“Middle Malaysia is the key to the electoral centre that is diverse and united, moderate and sensible... we must win over the hearts and minds of these voters because they form the core of the country’s future.”
He added that the middle ground mattered the most because Middle Malaysia will have a say over which coalition governs next.
“We want no part of the extremist fringes with pronouncements and positions that frighten off decent Malaysians,” said Lim.
