Malaysia Hindu Sangam headquarters, two cars torched

The Malaysia Hindu Sangam (MHS) office and cars belonging to its president and vice president were damaged during an arson attack early this morning.

MHS former president Datuk A.Vaithilingam said their building in Taman Petaling was slightly damaged.

“According to a guard, several men were seen pouring petrol on the cars and building at about 1.30am,” he told The Malaysian Insider.

He believed the attack is related to MHS objections to an individual who had been collecting money recently and not a religious dispute with another religion.

MHS president R.S Mohan Shan is currently holding a press conference about the incident.

Vaithilingam said the owners of the cars lodged a police report at beat base after the incident and are scheduled to give a statement at the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters later today.

He estimated the damaged to the cars to be at least RM20,000.

He explained Mohan and his deputy are from out of town, and were sleeping in the building after holding a meeting, when the arson attack occurred.

“Fortunately they managed to come out and put out the fire in time.”

He added MHS had recently held a meeting with other Hindu NGOs to try and put a stop to a meditation group which had been profiteering from religion. He believes this morning’s attack was due to this.
