Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim
Anwar, when debating the motion of thanks to the royal address, claimed that the speech heaped praises on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Tun Mahathir said that although such speeches were normally drafted by the Prime Minister's Department, the palace would have the right to make amendments.
"Once the speech is read, it will become the address of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong," he told reporters at parliament lobby.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said as a leader, it was not proper for Anwar to raise the matter.
"It is His Majesty's discretion whether to accept the draft presented to him. If there was anything that His Majesty did not agree in the speech, he would not have read it," he said.
Datuk Idris Harun (BN-Tangga Batu) said an elected representative should not question the address of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in line with ruler's status as the supreme head of the federation.
"We should all take note of the content of the speech and not questioning it," he said.
