Deviant website will be investigated, says minister

The government will investigate a report on a website which is said to contain elements of deviant teachings, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Jamil Khir Baharom said.

He said the investigations would involve the Home Ministry, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Islamic Development Department (Jakim).

"We will monitor and investigate the report because we do not want the website to poison the minds of our society," he told reporters after opening a convention on mosque management today.

He said the Prime Minister's Department would also work with other communication and multimedia agencies to monitor the spread of deviationist teachings through the Internet.

Earlier in his speech, Jamil Khir advised mosque committee members to manage their finances well so that they would be able to carry out more activities for the society.

"They should not depend only on the mosque funds, but to collect donations, including from house to house, so that they need not have to depend on others, like the religious department, to carry out activities or improve facilities at their mosques," he added. - Bernama
