Independent MPs welcomed to contribute, says Najib

Datuk Seri Najib Razak has offered independent MPs a chance to contribute to Barisan Nasional (BN), but he remained silent about whether they would be actively courted to become members of component parties.

The prime minister was commenting today on the remarks by Kulim-Bandar Baharu Umno chief Datuk Abdul Aziz Sheikh Fadzir, who has invited sacked PKR MP Zulkifli Noordin to use Umno as his political platform.

“If it is constructive, we don’t have problems to work with independent MPs,” said Najib at a press conference after a meeting with the Special Taskforce to Facilitate Business (Pemudah).

“The list of independent MPs seems to be growing,” he added.

In the last one month three PKR MPs have left the party to turn independent. They are Datuk Seri Zahrain Hashim (Bayan Baru), Tan Tee Beng (Nibong Tebal) and Mohsin Fadzli Samsuri (Bagan Serai).

Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli was sacked by PKR last weekend over the “Allah” row.

PAS leaders have declared that the party will not accept Zulkifli.
