Solve internal party problems, Najib tells Chinese

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (picture) has urged a Chinese-based political party to solve its internal problems quickly because the Chinese community needs its leadership.

Without naming specifically the party concerned, Najib said: “If you have problems, please solve your problems quickly.

“I am not referring to any political party, but get on with it, we don’t waste any time, the Chinese community needs your leadership.”

Najib said this in his speech at the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCIM) Chinese New Year Grand Dinner here, last night, and his remarks drew laughter from the floor.

Also present at the dinner were MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, who is also Transport Minister, MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek, MCA vice president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and former Gerakan president Tun Dr Lim Keng Yaik.

Najib also said he hoped that the Year of the Tiger this year could make Malaysia a great nation.

“Let us make Malaysia a great nation starting of this year. Make this Year of Tiger a really prosperous and harmonious year that will benefit all under the 1 Malaysia concept,” he said.

During the event Najib’s son, Norashman Razak showed his talent by singing a Mandarin song.

He was later joined by his mother Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor to perform a duet for a similar song.

Speaking to reporters after the event, Chua said Najib had always hinted to MCA to solve its problems.

He said holding fresh party polls was the best solution for MCA to recover its conflicts within.

Asked whether he would be defending his post, Chua said he had not thought about it yet.

Liow and MCA Youth chief Datuk Wee Ka Siong, who agreed with Najib’s advice, said they were determined to settle the party problems quickly so that MCA would emerge stronger. — Bernama
