Wee, Chew storms out of MCA CC meet, polls on March 28

MCA Youth and Women's wing leaders - Wee Ka Siong and Chew Mei Fun - today stormed out of the party central committee meeting which overruled the respective wing's decision to postpone their AGMs.

The duo had attended the central committee meeting which was scheduled to discuss the election of a coordinator for fresh polls to decide on a new central committee.

According to Wee, the central committee had resolved to hold polls on March 28 but wants the central body, Youth and Women's wing annual general assembly to proceed as scheduled this weekend.

Both Wee and Chew subsequently walked out of the meeting in protest.

Earlier, secretary-general Wong Foon Meng said the party must hold elections for the central committee within 30 days, beginning yesterday, which was the day he received resignation letters from 21 central committee members.

The resignations of two-thirds of the powerful central committee have forced the embattled party to call for fresh leadership elections.

Meanwhile, the MCA Youth and Women's wing has resolved to postpone its AGM scheduled for tomorrow.

NONEHowever, both wings will proceed with their joint dinner for delegates tonight, who have already arrived in anticipation for the AGM tomorrow.

Leaders of the two wings have been at loggerheads with Ong, who has been trying to delay the party polls until later this year.
