PKR to name candidate on April 13

PKR will name its candidate for the Hulu Selangor by-election on April 13, two days ahead of a similar announcement by Barisan Nasional for the semi-rural seat.

The early PKR announcement is seen as a strategy to unsettle BN’s choice which is likely to be MIC deputy president Datuk G. Palanivel despite calls for an Umno candidate.

The Malaysian Insider understands the announcement will be at Serendah by PKR and Pakatan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang.

Selangor PKR election director Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid told The Malaysian Insider that the date was chosen after much consideration.

“After all, this is a right date for everyone,” said Abdullah Sani.

When asked recently whether PKR would make the announcement after April 10, party president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had said “We will see what BN’s move is first.”

“We have prepared from the start, we are not afraid to face challenges... no problem,” said Abdullah Sani when asked on the reason for the planned announcement to take place two days before BN announces its own candidate.”

The Kuala Langat MP however said that the candidate had not been decided yet.

PKR is scheduled to have its politcal bureau meeting tomorrow and the matter is expected to be resolved by a select committee chaired by Wan Azizah.

Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin disclosed that BN’s choice for the by-election will be announced on  April 15.

Muhyiddin said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had already informed him the name of the candidate.

“He has already informed me and I will announce it on April 15, Insya-Allah... 15th we will announce, he is also a local, Insya-Allah,” said the DPM.
