MCA May Be Facing Exodus Too?

While PKR lost four MPs in a span of less than three weeks, on the other side of the spectrum, MCA may be losing eight parliamentarians who, reportedly, are considering to quit the party.

According to NST's report, Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai and four deputy ministers are among eight members who are are considering to leave the party once they can apply for direct membership into Barisan Nasional.

In the report, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister and Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Wee Jeck Seng, when contacted, said, "I am not saying yes or no. This could be one of the actions taken.”

Meanwhile, Alor Star MP and Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chor Chee Heung was reported to have said that the issue regarding BN direct membership had not been finalised.

According to sources, the eight members saw the move as the best means of protest against the MCA leadership though they have no intention of harming BN.

Individuals, political groups and non-governmental organisations would be eligible to join the proposed BN direct membership plan.

The rest named in the NST Online report were Ayer Hitam MP and Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong (also the MCA Youth chief); Kluang MP and Deputy Higher Education Minister Dr Hou Kok Chung; Tanjong Malim MP and former MCA secretary-general Datuk Ong Ka Chuan; Tebrau MP Teng Boon Soon and Gelang Patah MP Tan Ah Eng.

These MPs claimed that former MCA president and current Kulai MP Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting was also with them although Ka Ting had not explicitly stated that he would follow suit in leaving MCA.

There are altogether 15 MCA MPs.
