Malaysiakini and other news medias reported that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was read a charge that he had committed a sodomy act on Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, aged 23, at Unit No 11-5-1 Kondominium Desa Damansara between the hours 3.01 pm until 4.30 pm on 26 June 2008 in front of Sessions Criminal Court Judge 1, S M Komathy. Anwar was charged under Section 377B of the Penal Code. Datuk Seri Anwar denied the charge and further stated that "This is a malicious slander and I'm not guilty" ("Tuduhan ini adalah berniat jahat dan khianat dan saya tidak bersalah yang arif"). Datuk Seri Anwar was allowed bail of RM20,000 on a personal bond and had to surrender his Malaysian Passport. The Court fixed hearing on 10 September 2008. The prosecution team was lead by Solicitor-General Datuk Idrus Harun while the defence was lead by lawyer Sulaiman Abdullah.
