MONEY POLITICS - UMNO WAY OF LIFE

With the rampant use of money to secure nominations from UMNO Divisional representatives, this menace would remain and be intact with UMNO due to historical reasons.

As is popularly known, every eligible Malaysian who joins UMNO has a perception that they can build their fortunes by being its leader or branch or divisional representatives. Certain past events speaks for itself.

About two years ago, every UMNO Divisional leaders were accorded a few Millions in the name of Development budget by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to secure their support and continued confidence. UMNO Divisional leaders are accorded similar status as elected representatives with 'allocations' to enrich themselves and their cronies. There were instances where 'payments' were made to oust incumbent delegates, referring to Tun Dr Mahathir's case at Kubang Pasu.

Now, there are complaints that money politics is so rampant that even Divisional representatives are given. Previously only Divisional leaders were accorded such privileges. Now we can understand the grave root to the problem that UMNO had invented but nothing has been seen to be undertaken to wipe out this menace which will be embroiled in the Malaysian political arena for years to come.

It was reported that UMNO disciplinary board monitoring committee have identified candidates for the March 2009 party elections who are involved in money politics and abuse of power according to its board’s Chairman Tengku Tan Sri Ahmad Rithauddeen Tengku Ismail in a statement recently.

But as usual, Malaysian style, the excuse would be the Board was now in the process of gathering evidence and witnesses to facilitate investigations and if in the end they are found guilty, they will lose the eligibility to contest or, if they won, their victory can be nullified are mere statements just to sweep these rumours under the carpet.

Nothing firm will be undertaken. Maybe to please the masses some 'scapegoats' would not be spared. The real culprits would not be punished in fear of repercussions.

Maybe the only way this menace can be eradicated is to 'ban UMNO' or deregister UMNO permanently.

Then every Malaysian problem could be resolved.

Are UMNOputras ready to accept this outcome?
