It was learned that this controversy is over Liu's alleged role in the hotel raid cropped up after it was revealed by former Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo six months ago.

But Liu filed a defamation suit against Datuk Seri Dr Khir, who is now the Opposition leader in the Selangor State Assembly and in the suit, which was filed on Oct 5, Liu claimed that Datuk Seri Dr Khir had defamed him by describing him as immoral and being involved in vice activities while Datuk Seri Dr Khir had in May accused Liu of obstructing the raid and therefore argued that the DAP leader was not fit to be in charge of the state's local government. However, Liu had denied the allegation.
