DPM: Opposition's attempt to sour ties a desperate act

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said the opposition's attempt to sour his ties with Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak is a desperate act to topple Umno and Barisan Nasional.

Muhyiddin, who is also Umno deputy president, said the opposition's attempt to drive a wedge with Najib was just a waste of time.

“My ties with the prime minister are still strong despite the opposition's attempt to split us," he said at a Juara Rakyat programme here today.

The Kelantan Umno and BN function to give compensation payment to poor students was attended by some 5,000 people.

Muhyiddin said he had faith in Najib who managed to settle the political and economic problems faced by the country.

"The political situation became unstable when BN lost five states in the 2008 general election but things have since stabilised.

"The opposition is desperate as its weaknesses have been exposed. The people realised that they have been cheated by the opposition."

Muhyiddin said Najib's bold move to give a RM67 billion economic stimulus package helped Malaysia to overcome the effects of a global crisis.

"Things have stabilised and countries like China and Japan have started buying our products.

"The prime minister expects the economy to grow five to six percent this year," he added.
