Selangor BN holds convention to recapture state

Two years after losing Selangor to Pakatan Rakyat (PR), Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders will gather tomorrow in an effort to strengthen their position in the state.
“For BN in Selangor, this is the first we are having a convention,” said Sepang Umno chief Datuk Seri Mohamed Zin Mohd who leads the convention organising committee.

“There will be messages that we want to send to the people of Selangor... this is also to strengthen our organisation internally,” the former works minister told The Malaysian Insider.

The convention will be attended by some 1,500 grassroots leaders of all BN component parties in the state.
State Umno deputy chief  and Agriculture Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar will deliver the keynote address and open the convention in the morning.

This will be followed by a discussion on political, economic and social issues by the delegates.

“After the discussion, we will come out with a declaration,” said Mohamed Zin.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who is also the Selangor Umno chief will deliver a special address to the delegates in the afternoon.

On whether the convention will be a platform to discuss the candidate selection for Hulu Selangor, Mohamed Zin said it is very unlikely.

“I don’t think so, we have been planning this for months... way before the Hulu Selangor by-election announcement,” he told The Malaysian Insider.

BN will face PKR on April 25 in the Hulu Selangor by-election following the death of its representative Datuk Dr Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

Umno grassroots leaders in the constituency have been demanding for the seat to be contested by the Malay party but senior leaders have hinted that MIC will continue to represent BN in Hulu Selangor.
