Malaysiakini : Anwar promises new and better Budget

PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim today said that he would summit a new Budget if his Pakatan Rakyat managed to take over the government.

He said that the main theme of his Budget would be to cut down the deficit, lower taxes and implement open tenders for government contracts.

He said this today at a press conference held at PKR headquarters in Tropicana, Petaling Jaya.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, also the finance minister, tabled the 2009 Budget on Friday and received mixed reactions.

The opposition parties however had expressed their disappointment with Abdullah's failure to provide new incentives to stimulate growth in the economy.

They were also worried on the ballooning budget deficit.

Anwar, a former finance minister, has said that he would be able to form a new government on Sept 16.
