RAJA PETRA ARRESTED UNDER INTERNAL SECURITY ACT (ISA)

It is reported in Malaysiakini today that controversial blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin has been arrest at about 1.50pm under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

A police delegation arrived at their home at Sungei Buloh at about 1.10pm to arrest him and confiscated his computer, some books and VCDs.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar on 6 September had warned the 58-year-old editor of popular news portal MalaysiaToday could be charged under the ISA for comments allegedly insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad since several religious groups, Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim), Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (Maiwp) and Federal Territory Religious Department (Jawi) had lodged police reports against him for his articles.

The articles concerned were entitled "I Promise to be a good, non-hypocritical Muslim" allegedly used sentences that insulted Muslims.

But latest information reveal since the government and police were unhappy to obtain any evidence since MalaysiaToday does not belong to him, the best alternative would be to arrest him under ISA.

Since he is also not an UMNOputra, no questions would be raised. There is a normal trend that UMNOputras could say and do anything and the government consisting mostly of UMNOputras would not take any serious actions as provided by the laws of Malaysia. They are normally let off with a mere pardon although how serious the crime is. A clear case of 'double-standard'.
