Raja Petra to be sent to Kamunting

MalaysiaToday blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin has been sent to the Kamunting Detention Centre in Taiping, Perak today to begin his two-year detention under the Internal Security Act, as stated by his lawyers.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar signed his detention order last night for the blogger to be held without trial under section 8(1) of the tough security law. Under the Act, the government can renew his detention indefinitely.

The police had informed the lawyers this morning that they would be taking Raja Petra to the detention centre.

"The act by the minister to sign the section 8 order yesterday is completely unacceptable," one of Raja Petra's lead lawyer Malik Imtiaz informed.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court is to hear a habeas corpus application by Raja Petra's lawyers to overturn the detention of the controversial blogger today.

Habeas corpus is a writ ordering prisoners to be brought before a judge to ascertain if there are any procedural defects which could render their detention unlawful.

Raja Petra's wife Marina Abdullah confirmed that the police had informed her that the detention order had been issued by the minister yesterday.

Including those present in the court this morning was recently resigned de facto Law Minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim.

It seems the BN government wanted to halt any chance of release by signing the order since the government and police had no real evidence that could support their argument.

It seem the present BN government with the police will resort to ISA to achieve their ends despite the theory that 'you will only be charged if you are proven wrong'. This clearly shows that the BN government and police are tampering with justice.

Time to topple this 'irresponsible and corrupted' Barisan Nasional government before great injustice is caused. The new government would have to do a major overhaul of the police force to build public confidence.

Time for Malaysians to seek justice.
