MIC URGE GOVERNMENT TO RELEASE HINDRAF 5

It was reported that the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has urged the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to release the Hindraf 5 who are detained under Internal Security Act (ISA) at Kamunting Detention Centre since they are of no threat any longer under national security.

The call was made by MIC President Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu. MIC is a major component party of the Barisan Nasional.

The five detained are R Kengadharan, 41, M Manoharan, 47, V Ganabatirau, 35, P Uthayakumar, 47, and K Vasantha Kumar, 35 who were arrested on December 13 for their role in organising a campaign to highlight the plights of the Indian community in this country with a mass street protest on November 25.

Datuk Seri Samy stated that the Indian community is unhappy with the continued detention of the Hindraf 5 and in order to gain confidence of the Indians, BN would need to release the Hindraf 5 immediately.

Will the Hindraf 5 be released immediately or is MIC going to give an ultimatum to BN that if the Hindraf 5 are not released they are leaving the BN coalition.

This fork tongue fellow has gone on national televsion to say that Hindraf members/demonstrators are "orang gila" (mad people). I clearly saw that on tv. Despite this, sad to say, the Indians still support and adore him. What a shame.
